Pleased to share that from 7pm on Thursday the 25th of September, author Chris Jones will be launching his new book “The Spy who helped the soviets win Stalingrad and Kursk”. The launch will take place at the Tyneside Irish Centre in collaboration with the North East Labour History Society.
In his book, Chris Jones recounts the life of Alexander Foote, Liverpool’s only known Soviet Spy. The Swiss espionage network transmitted top secret German military plans to the USSR when the war was at a tipping point and Soviet generals came to rely on the information coming from Foote and his comrades. Awarded one of the USSR’s highest military honours, Foote’s life became a story of disillusionment, disappointment, and early death.
