The history of modern Ireland – TV documentary and discussion

June 7, 2018 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

THE HISTORY OF MODERN IRELAND

Tyneside Irish Cultural Society(TICS) will be showing the acclaimed RTE documentary “Seven Ages: the Story of the Irish State” in the Irish Centre, Gallowgate NE1 4SG.

The series is generally regarded as a unique source of evidence for the dramatic events that shaped Ireland in the twentieth century. This is largely because of the original archive of film to which the producers had access and the contributions of so many of the major players on that stage including De Valera, Liam Cosgrave, Sean Lemass, Garett FitzGerald, Mary Robinson as well as a raft of distinguished historians.

All showings start at 4.30pm in the Gallowgate Room accessed by the lift to floor two. Each last about 50 minutes allowing enough time for questions and discussions afterwards. Tony Corcoran and staff from local universities will host the series. The fee for the seven sessions is £10 or you can pay £2 for the odd one. Please phone Barbara Flynn on 0191 2610385 if you have queries or need any help or to have the fee waived.
